DayMet Partnership Serves The Miami Valley
Tuesday, October 14th DayMet Credit Union partnered with five other local credit unions to host a live "foreclosure prevention" event called Mortgage Matters. Mortgage Matters was televised live on WDTN "Channel 2" as a community call-in. The event provided an opportunity for concerned homeowners to get answers to their mortgage questions. During the 3 hour live event 166 calls were taken and every inquiry was turned over to the HomeOwnership Center of Greater Dayton. The HOC assists people in need by directing them to resources to help in settling their mortgage matters. This was an outstanding community outreach that illustrated the "Credit Union Difference".
Making Strides Raises $300,000 in 2008 With The Help Of The Miami Valley
Saturday, October 18th volunteers from DayMet Credit Union joined The American Cancer Society, in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event .This year’s Making Strides event began at 9:00 a.m. with registration and entertainment at the Dragons Stadium and at 10:00 a.m. the walk kicked off. The dollars and support raised at this event went to help fulfill The American Cancer Society’s mission of eliminating breast cancer as a major health problem by preventing breast cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from breast cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and community service. In addition to volunteering at the event, DayMet Credit Union sold cancer awareness bracelets at two branch locations raising $864 to donate to the cause. Thank you to all members who supported the cause and DayMets efforts.
Students Need To Plan Ahead For College Tuition
Did you know that DayMet has student loans? You can apply for FASFA from a link on this website. DayMet helps members achieve their dreams of higher education.
Steps To Applying For a Student Loan:
1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form (FAFSA). FAFSA’s are accepted and processed after January 1st of the year in which a student is planning to attend school. Do this as soon as possible to receive eligibility for all types of financial aid.
2. A Student Aid Report (SAR) will be created once the FAFSA has been processed.
3. A letter from the school will notify you of your financial aid award for the coming academic year. If the award is for a Stafford loan the school will either provide a master Promissory Note (MPN) with the letter or instruct you to get one from a lender. Although the award letter may include a preferred lender list, you have the right to choose your credit union. To do this simply fill in DayMet Credit Union and the lender code #830779 when completing MPN.
4. The completed MPN should be returned to DayMet for processing.
5. If the financial aid is not sufficient to cover the costs of or if the student doesn’t qualify for a Stafford Loan, a parent or step-parent can apply for a PLUS loan. Call or stop in any DayMet for an application.
The Nations Economy And Your Financial Security Concerns
With the recent events in the financial industry, we are receiving inquires from our members regarding the safety of their deposits. It is completely understandable why there is concern during these economic times. Here is a brief guideline for insurance inquiries. As always you may contact DayMet with concerns about the security of your accounts.
DayMet Credit Union is insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). NCUA is a federal insurance program but is not the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) used by banks. The similarity of both products is the fact that each provides insurance for deposits.
NCUA Coverage
All DayMet accounts are insured for up to $100,000 through the NCUA and Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA's) are insured for up to $250,000. Each account is insured individually; that means a wife, a husband and their joint accounts are all insured separately. For a limited time, until December 2009 the $100,000 NCUA insurance will be increased to $250,000. The $250,000 IRA coverage remains the same.
Excess Share Insurance
In addition to the NCUA insurance coverage, DayMet automatically provides Excess Share Insurance (ESI) coverage at no cost to members whose accounts exceed the $250,000 covered by the NCUA including IRA's that exceed $250,000. ESI could add up to an additional $250,000 in deposit coverage. This means deposits and IRA's are covered for up to $500,000.
NCUA insured credit unions including DayMet Credit Union have never lost a cent in insured deposits. DayMet continues to surpass the NCUA's requirements for federal insurance and we remain safe, sound and solid as a financial institution.
For additional information please visit the NCUA website at www.ncua.gov or contact DayMet.
